Actress Angelina Jolie Looks Unrecognizable In Throwback Photos

Angelina Jolie, 46, is most known for being an actress, filmmaker and humanitarian. One of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses, she is just as well known for her incredible beauty as she is for her acting. She's had an esteemed career in which she's won multiple awards, including an Oscar, and in the last 10+ years, she even began to direct her own movies.

As one of Hollywood's elite, she's no stranger to the spotlight, but her personal life has caused just as much of a stir as her professional work. Her relationships over the years have been a highly talked about topic in the media. From her most recent marriage and longtime relationship with fellow A-lister Brad Pitt to her previous marriages, Jolie's private life has been just as reported on in the press as her films.

Her work as a humanitarian has also earned her a lot of recognition, while her large family that consists of both adopted and biological children who she shares with Pitt, is widely known. In previous years Jolie and Pitt shielded their children from the glare of Hollywood but more recently Jolie began to bring all of her kids to her movie premieres.

Although she is one of Hollywood's most recognizable faces these days, Jolie's career grew steadily over the years. And just as her film roles developed, so did her looks. In fact, in her 20s and earlier, Jolie even looked quite a bit different than how she looks today. Let's go back in time and see how she's changed over the years.

Jolie's most recent film role was in the Marvel movie "Eternals," where she played Thena, who is one of the titular immortal beings. In the movie, the Eternals are forced to come out of hiding after thousands of years in order to protect the Earth from the Deviants, their evil counterparts. Thena's power is that she can form weapons out of virtually anything.

The film generated a lot of buzz as it featured a star-studded cast and an incredibly diverse lineup of characters. Jolie attended the film's premiere in October and made it a family affair when five of the six Jolie-Pitt children accompanied her. No doubt proud of their mom, Maddox, 20, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 13, all stepped out alongside her. Pax, 18, was the only child who didn't attend the event.

Now, teenagers and young adults, it was fascinating to see how much each of the Jolie-Pitt clan has grown. Although they do appear publicly on rare occasions, it's not common for them to get caught up in the Hollywood scene. Photographed together on the red carpet (which was actually navy), Jolie looked like an incredibly proud mother as she smiled widely beside her kids. All of them looked truly happy and excited to be there, with big grins coming from all of them as they posed for one big family photo.

The actress looked stunning as always and proved that she truly becomes more beautiful with age, as she donned an olive-green strapless gown with Grecian-style draping on the front. She wore her deep brown hair down and otherwise, kept the look simple, while she accessorized with a few bracelets and a lip cuff that contrasted with her classic look and showed that she still has her edge.

Despite looking sensational as a family on the red carpet, Jolie joked about how her kids would be less than thrilled to see her wearing a gold spandex bodysuit in the movie. As reported by ET, she asked her kids on the red carpet, "Would you wanna see your mother wearing that?" To which she added:

"I don't know, they haven't seen the movie, but your mom walks in with a gold spandex outfit and gold hair, they're like, 'What do you do for a living? What are you? Get back in your robe.'"

The last time most of the Jolie-Pitt kids made a public appearance together was at the 2019 premiere of another one of Jolie's films — "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil." At that premiere, Maddox didn't attend, but the five younger kids did. That night Jolie dressed in a sexy black gown that was embroidered with a silver spider — a look that fit perfectly to the iconic Disney villain. There she looked as gorgeous as ever and only proved that she has not visibly aged over the last decade.

That same year, Jolie and her children were all photographed selling dog treats at a local dog park in Los Angeles, with proceeds going to a rescue shelter. The candid snap showed that alongside her well-known humanitarian missions, Jolie is not above supporting local endeavors and has taught her children to care about causes just like she does.

Jolie remains a calming presence in her children's lives, especially amid the pandemic. She told Harper's Bazaar last year:

"Like most parents, I focus on staying calm so my children don’t feel anxiety from me on top of all they are worrying about. I put all my energy into them."

In fact, Jolie's love and devotion to her children played a pivotal role in her widely talked about breakup with Pitt. After two years of marriage and 12 years together in all, "Brangelina" as they were known ended their relationship in 2016.

According to Vanity Fair, Jolie first filed for divorce from Pitt in that year, and the entire divorce process has lasted longer than their actual marriage. Because of a domestic violence incident in 2016, an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Child and Family Services was opened but closed the same year, only a few short months after Jolie filed for divorce.

Earlier this year, private judge John Ouderkirk awarded Pitt joint custody of his children along with Jolie. According to the BBC, Jolie filed for divorce due to "irreconcilable differences" and said there were "other issues of concern" other than joint custody regarding the divorce. According to Harper's Bazaar, Jolie left Pitt on the grounds of the general "wellbeing" of the family. She said:

"It was the right decision. I continue to focus on their healing. Some have taken advantage of my silence, and the children see lies about themselves in the media, but I remind them that they know their own truth and their own minds. In fact, they are six very brave, very strong young people ... I would love to live abroad and will do so as soon as my children are 18. Right now I'm having to base where their father chooses to live."

During their relationship, Jolie and Pitt were considered Hollywood's most beautiful couple. This was when Jolie cultivated the look she still wears today — with her naturally brown hair worn long in loose waves, minimal makeup and clothes that are classically elegant and highlight her lithe figure.

But despite being one of Hollywood's it-couples, Jolie and Pitt's union did not get off to a good start. The pair came together professionally on the 2005 movie "Mr & Mrs. Smith" and soon enough, there were rumors they were an item, despite the fact that Pitt was then married to Jennifer Aniston. Jolie was accused of breaking up Aniston and Pitt's marriage, and while the situation wasn't discussed by any of them, Jolie did make a few comments later on. She admitted that she fell in love with Pitt during the making of "Mr. & Mr. Smith," but that they weren't intimate. She said later in an interview:

"To be intimate with a married man, when my own father cheated on my mother, is not something I could forgive. I could not look at myself in the morning if I did that. I wouldn't be attracted to a man who would cheat on his wife."

Nevertheless, Brangelina became an item, and just as suddenly as they got together, their family grew. Jolie had already adopted her first son Maddox, but around the start of her and Pitt's relationship she adopted Zahara, and it later turned out that Pitt was also involved in the decision. Soon after, he legally adopted both Maddox and Zahara as his own children.

Following this, Jolie became pregnant with the couple's first biological child, Shiloh, who in recent years went by the name John. The couple also adopted another son in 2007, a boy from Vietnam named Pax.

Then at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, the couple confirmed that Jolie was pregnant once more, that time with twins. Just a few months later, on July 12, she gave birth to Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline, who were born one minute apart, with Knox, the elder of the two.

Knowing how much media interest there would be around the twins' birth, the couple sold the rights to the first images of them to People and Hello! for $14 million, which made history as the most expensive celebrity photos ever taken. They donated the money to their nonprofit organization, the Maddox-Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

But before Jolie's relationship with Pitt and their large family became the word on everyone's lips, the actress had established herself as one of the best in Hollywood, with her raw talent the foundation of her long career. Jolie became a household name at the turn of the millennium after she took on the role of Lara Croft in the "Tomb Raider" franchise. She also appeared in blockbusters "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" and "Gone In 60 Seconds," as well as more arthouse films such as "Original Sin" and "Taking Lives."

This was also when she was married to Billy Bob Thornton, her second husband. The couple became notorious for their public displays of love and off-kilter interests. During this period, Jolie's style was very rock'n'roll — a complete contrast to the glamorous looks she's known for these days. With jet black hair and pale skin, she used to rock leather pants and had an overall gothic vibe. She and Thornton even famously wore vials of each other's blood around their neck as a symbol of their love. In 2003 the couple divorced and it seems they just drifted apart.

In the late '90s, before she was married to Thornton, Jolie's incredible talent as an actress brought her to the world's attention. She had a number of highly acclaimed roles in the movies "George Wallace," "Gia" and "Girl, Interrupted" that won her numerous awards including three Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and an Oscar for the latter.

It was during this time that she was married to her first husband, British actor Johnny Lee Miller, who she met on the set of the 1995 film "Hackers." Their relationship was also underscored by their intense devotion to each other — for their wedding, Jolie wore black rubber pants and a white T-shirt with Miller's name written on it in her blood. It was also a time of strong experimentation with her looks. Jolie sported short black hair of varying lengths — from nearly shaved to different pixie haircuts, as well as a bleached blond bob.

Prior to this, Jolie really began her acting career, however, her earliest roles weren't in movies but in music videos and short films from the early '90s. She appeared in a number of videos directed by her brother, James Haven.

In fact, Jolie has Hollywood in her blood. The daughter of renowned actor Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, who was also an actress and humanitarian, Jolie was born in Los Angeles and grew up on film sets. However, it wasn't her father's successful career that inspired her to take up acting but instead the many movies she watched at home with her mother. She enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, and after a rebellious period in her late teens, Jolie committed to her passion for the craft.

In the earliest throwback photos of Jolie, her hallmarks of beauty are all there — her piercing eyes and famous lips, as well as the intensity that she went on to become so well known for. Absolutely gorgeous at any age, Jolie has run the gamut of styles and has proven that she is a timeless beauty.
