Grandchildren are one of life’s greatest joys. As you eagerly hand them over to your children for toddler and teenage meltdowns, you’re free to focus on all their best qualities, and they’re free to do the same for you. The following grandpa is proof that no matter who you are, you’re always a grandparent to your adoring grandchildren.

Just Average As Far As Grandpas Go

Although Tom Hanks is a world-renown actor, he’s about as average as a grandparent can get. He loves to get them presents and make them laugh. The one thing that he does that most other grandparents can relate to is freely ignoring any childcare advice from adult children.

Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, are proud to be just grandparents to Olivia, Charlotte, and Michaiah. Decades of never-ending hard work and worry from raising children are distant memories. The Hanks just enjoy being grandparents.

In an interview with Us Weekly Hanks’ son, Colin, revealed that one of the most refreshing things about his father’s grandparenthood is that his distinguished career means absolutely nothing to his grandchildren. They never ask for an autograph or a selfie with the famous star. They’re content to enjoy each moment with their beloved grandpa.

He added that Tom Hanks playing with his granddaughters is “like every other playdate with a grandparent. The grandparent gives them stuff they shouldn’t be having, and the grandparents don’t listen to what the parents are saying they should be doing.”

Such a heart-warming reminder of being valued for who you are has probably inspired a few memories. Are you a grandparent, or do you have memories of your grandparents?
