Actor Mark Wahlberg Was Devastated To Lose Sister On The Day His Daughter Was Born

"Departed" star Mark Wahlberg is well-known for his love of family. What many don't know is he underwent a very tragic event: on the same day that his first daughter was born, his sister, Debbie Walhberg, died.

She was only 43 years old at the time. According to Married Biography, she suffered a heart attack while undergoing a routine procedure to remove a kidney stone and died. Mark spoke to Entertainment Tonight Canada about how devastating it was:

"My mom really went into a big, deep depression after my sister passed away. It was the same day my daughter [Ella] was born, and she’ll be 16 on September 2, so it was a long time ago, but no parent should have to lose a child."

When Mark was growing up, his family lived in poverty. After he and his brother Donnie achieved TV success, his mother Alma stopped being known as Alma and was referred to as Mark and Donnie's mom; it was like she had lost her identity, which didn't help as she struggled with her grief over the loss of Debbie.

Mark and Donnie both agreed in the interview that the TV show "The Wahlburgers" really helped her recover. The family still pays tribute to Debbie every year on the anniversary of her death.

Mark Walhberg had a very difficult time as a teenager. He dropped out of school, struggled with addiction, and was arrested over 20 times, reports Mamamia. He served a two-year sentence for attempted murder. However, he put his past behind him and became a Calvin Klein model before going on to achieve success as a TV actor.
