Love Actually was a screenplay directed and written by Richard Curtis. The film, in which Hugh Grant plays a British prime minister, takes place a few weeks before Christmas. The plot follows many characters’ lives and shows the correlation between them all based on love. Despite the movie’s success and Grant’s amazing performance, it was revealed that there was one part of the movie that he despised: the dancing scene.

There is a dancing scene where Grant listens to the radio and hears a song that compels him to dance, only to be caught by his secretary. While it filmed well, Grant and his coworkers reveal that he hated filming the scene in his BBC Two career dedication documentary Hugh Grant: A Life on Screen. Everyone, from cast members to director Richard Curtis, speaks about how Hugh Grant would prolong rehearsals for the dancing scene until the last minute because he wasn’t a very musical person. He would make excuses for needing to rehearse lines or would claim he was in pain to get out of dancing for as long as he could. In the documentary, Grant was also quoted saying the dance scene was “absolute hell” to shoot.

Despite how he felt about filming the scene, the movie came out great and is a holiday crowd favorite. With Christmas right around the corner, this movie is worth checking out. If you are a true Hugh Grant fan, be sure to check out his documentary on BBC Two on December 23 at 9 p.m. to get a taste of his career from the people who know him best.
