Activists Are Outraged As Photos Reveal Animals Abandoned For Months In Closed-Down, Spanish Zoo

A number of heartbreaking photos have surfaced recently depicting abandoned animals inside a zoo in Spain. The zoo shut down for business two months ago.

The zoo was shut down after numerous complaints and animal deaths. Reviews that have been posted on Tripadvisor perfectly capture the sad state of the zoo. Reviewers explain their shock to see all the poorly cared for animals, like a tiger pacing back and forth in a tiny enclosure.

The reviewers also expressed problems with how the bears, baboons, geese, and ducks were kept. The poor reviews are a large part of the reason the zoo shut down. But to the dismay of activists, the animals were abandoned.

The activists have charged authorities with being unwilling to find homes for four baboons, a fallow deer, two bears, a tiger, and other species of animals. The Grape Ape Project is now holding rallies and speaking out about the animal abuse case.

According to LADbible, spokesperson Pedro Terrados, characterizes the zoo's state as 'chaotic abandonment.' Terrados says animals are unattended and the water in their cages is likely to cause illness if they consume it. He says it is also noted the animals are suffering great psychological distress.

Terrados can only wonder who feeds the animals if they are still being fed at all. He says at this time nothing is known about what, if any, care is being given to the animals at the abandoned zoo. The Grape Ape Project is requesting authorities in the city of Ayamonte to do what is necessary to guarantee the security and health of the animals.

They are also calling for laws to be adopted that would harshly punish zoos for neglect and abandonment of this level. A final request by the activists is that a rescue center is constructed for the benefit of former circus and zoo animals. Officials at the city hall in Ayamonte have not responded to any of the requests from the Grape Ape Project.
