Abused Siblings Who Were Locked In Cages By Adoptive Parents Get To Meet The Man Who Saved Them For The First Time

Unfortunately, we hear stories about child abuse entirely too often. With cruel people in the world, even children who are adopted by parents that promise to take care of them aren’t always treated kindly. In one case, however, a man became a savior for a large number of adopted children and their emotional reunion will warm your heart.

The man, named Carlyle Smith, was a caregiver seeking a job back in October of 2003 in Ohio. He approached the home of Michael and Sharen Gravelle looking for an interview to be their caregiver for their 11 children that they had adopted, but something went horribly wrong.

Immediately upon entering the home, Carlyle noticed that something wasn’t quite right. The parents had informed the man that he was not allowed to go upstairs to where the children usually slept. He was also told that the mother of the children made a child lock himself in a cage after having an accident in his pants. It also came to Carlyle’s attention that if a child tried to escape their cage, you would be able to tell because they would have their fingers cut up from the wiring of the cage.

Obviously, Carlyle declined the offer to take the job. He left the home in total disarray, shocked at what he had seen and disgusted from the conditions of the house that he had just entered. But he knew that the story couldn’t end there.

He decided to inform the police about what was happening at the Gravelle house to save the poor children from these harmful and abusive conditions. Thankfully, he succeeded. The parents were convicted of multiple counts of endangerment of children as well as child abuse.

The children got happy endings, and last year two of the escaped children, named Abba and Simon, decided to go on The Dr. Phil Show to discuss how they were brought up and how they were saved from their nightmare of a childhood.

They talked about Carlyle fondly, stating that they would want to hug him and thank him personally, but they’ve never had the opportunity to meet them.

But what Dr. Phil has planned is mind-blowing! What do you think about the Gravelle story? Would you react similarly to Carlyle? Let us know - and pass this along to your friends and family!
