Abused Dog Was So Sick He Couldn't Be Pet - Now, Can't Stop Hugging His New Owner

When the rescue group Border Collie Rescue and Rehab based out of Texas drove to pick up their next foster located in a shelter in Clarmore, Oklahoma, they were shocked at the condition of the dog. Kong, as he would be known at the rescue group, wasn’t just the typical black and white colored border collie.

Instead, he was mostly white with bright pink skin interspersed among his black markings. According to the Dodo, The poor dog had suffered through such neglect that his skin was sunburned, his fur was falling out and he needed immediate care in order to recover. The rescue group immediately sprung into action.

As soon as Kong was relocated to Texas, his recovery began. Starting with bathing, grooming and a nail trim, the rescue group helped the dog heal from his time in a shelter environment.

Although it obviously hurt to be touched, Kong tolerated all of the ministrations like a true champion and soon he was playing with toys and acting like a normal dog. Now it was time to find Kong a great home.

The adoption profile stated that while Kong might be shy at first, he loved being petted and doted upon. Like most border collies he also enjoyed an active lifestyle and would prefer a home that would keep up with his needs.

It wasn’t long before the one year old border collie’s adoption profile caught the eye of Curtis Hartsell. While he was not intending on bringing home a new dog, something about Kong called to him and Hartsell turned in an adoption application and was approved.

Hartsell told the Dodo

“I looked through his profile and just immediately fell in love with his single picture and the description they put on the page,”

“His foster mom described his temperament and personality and I described my life to her a bit and she said we sounded perfect for each other.”

When picking up Kong, now called ZIB after a Soviet space dog that made it into orbit and survived, Hartsell was greeted by a long hug from his newly adopted pup. Apparently even though ZIB had survived hardship and neglect, he was still willing to offer love to his future companions regardless of his past.
