Karma was only a pup when she was dumped on the street by her owners in Denver neighbourhood. Left to fend for herself, she grew emaciated and afraid of people.

According to CNN, some children were playing in the neighborhood park back in November when they witnessed a car pull up and leave Karma out of the car before driving off. Due to an impending winter storm, the neighborhood was determined to catch the poor pup and bring her to safety. This, however, proved to be a difficult feat as Karma was skittish, anxious and distrusting towards humans.

Following six days of trying and failing, the group finally managed to catch the poor pup, who "had worn all her paws down to where they were bleeding," according to Deputy Patrick Hynes.

When she was finally caught, the mother and son duo who found her immediately took her to the vet, who realized she was 'Belgian Malinois'. This specific breed of dog is highly desirable for the police force as, according to the American Kanine Club, they are 'world-class workers' who form a 'special bond' with their human companion.

Upon this realization, the vet immediately contacted the Front Range Explosives Detection Group to discuss a potential placement on the team for Karma.

Amazingly, Denver's K-9 unit had an opening. Taylor, a chocolate Lab who served for six years on the force was retiring . That meant Deputy Patrick Hynes would need a new partner. He met Karma and the rest was history. He quickly adopted her. Now, she's trained and certified to detect explosive devices. She even has a high-profile position -- patrolling the Denver City and County Building.

She's come a long way from the scared dog dumped on the side of the road!
