Abandoned Dog Is Discovered Nursing Tiny Kitten In Ravine, Their Relationship Will Melt Your Heart

There are often stories about how dogs and cats are sworn enemies. While some people buy into this idea, reality tell a different tale.

Sometimes, in the real world, dogs and cats can be the best of friends. This happened to be true in one scene involving a very caring dog and a kitten in need of care. Officer Michelle Smith of Anderson animal control got a call regarding a dog that kept on barking.

The officer went to check it out and was completely surprised by what she found. When Officer Anderson arrived, she saw the most adorable sight: a dog nursing a kitten as they both had been abandoned by the creek. This cuddly moment was happening in an embankment beyond a deep ravine.

The dog was wearing a collar, but other than that, it wasn't clear if the two animals were lost pets of neighboring houses.

The truth was that the two animals were both abandoned. The Shih Tzu had grown fond of the kitten and taken it on as if it were her own child. She protected and nursed the baby as any devoted mother would.

The officer was moved by the touching scene and brought the pair to Anderson County P.A.W.S. to ensure that they'd both be safe. However, once at the shelter, the dog wouldn't leave the kitten's side. She knew she had to protect her child and would stay by her side at any means necessary.

Once both animals' health were reviewed, it was obvious that the kitten had been taken care of by the "mother" dog for a long time! The craziest thing about this story is that the dog's medical review showed no sign of her giving birth to puppies--she lactated solely to keep the cat alive!

At the shelter, the new mother dog got the name "Goldie" and the cat was named "Kate", after the celebrities Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn. Once their story was shared to the Internet, the post went viral.

As the story took off, a lovely couple was chosen to take in the dynamic duo.

Now, Kate and Goldie are fully grown and are loving the happy ending to their story. This beautiful tale shows the importance of giving shelter animals a second chance.
