Abandoned Dog Found Lying In The Dirt After His Heartless Owners Moved Away And Left Him To Die

Jun 18, 2019 by apost team

Dogs are loyal creatures, even when humans in their lives don't deserve loyalty. When one California family moved, they left their poor golden lab behind. The dog spent every day lying in the dirt across from his former house, waiting for his family to return to him.

The dog, who was later named Larry, lived on scraps for months while he patiently waited for his family's return. One delivery driver could no longer stand to see Larry suffer. It broke her heart to see him lying there in the dirt, but she was unable to adopt Larry herself.

The kindhearted delivery driver took pictures of Larry and made an Instagram account called oldboy909. She posted a new picture every day until she attracted the attention of Love Leo Rescue, an animal rescue organization located in Los Angeles.

Sasha Abelson, the president of Love Leo Rescue, contacted local rescuers and arranged to have him brought to Los Angeles. The rescuers managed to get a nervous Larry into their car and drove two long hours to Los Angeles.

When Larry arrived at Love Leo Rescue, the staff thought it was strange that Larry had a bloated abdomen. He hadn't had a proper meal in months. Larry should have been underweight.

Larry was also missing fur and had difficulty walking. Love Leo Rescue took Larry to the vet where he was diagnosed with Cushing's disease. Cushing's disease is common in older dogs and is typically caused by a noncancerous tumor on the pituitary gland.

Symptoms of Cushing's disease in dogs include excessive thirst and hunger, behavioral problems, frequent urination, hair loss, panting, a bloated stomach and fat deposits on the shoulders and neck.

Surgery wasn't an option for Larry. The vet estimated he was at least 8-years-old, and surgery was too risky in his current condition. Larry would need to take medication every day for the rest of his life.

Larry would spend the next 45 days at the animal hospital adjusting to his new meds. At first, the dog was depressed and lashed out at the other animals. Cushing's disease can affect a dog's personality.

Larry's temperament changed as he adjusted to his medications. He became more affectionate and started playing with the other dogs. He was relocated to a doggy daycare in the area so he could spend time outdoors and socialize with other animals.

The Love Leo staff was amazed at Larry's transformation. Despite everything he'd gone through, he found it in his heart to trust again. Now came the hard part: finding Larry a forever home.

Larry's medications costs $180 a month. Not many families want to adopt dogs with chronic health conditions. Larry also developed separation anxiety and occasionally has accidents in the house

Larry was kicked out of three different foster homes because of his separation anxiety. Nobody can blame Larry for having separation anxiety after what his family did to him, but the rescue needed to find a true animal lover to adopt him.

Two potential adopters bailed on Larry at the last minute, but then it happened. On December 6, 2018, Larry the Lab found his forever home. He now lives with a family who takes him on daily walks, gives him plenty of belly rubs and scratches his favorite spot behind his ear. Most importantly, this family will never abandon him.
