Abandoned Dog Found In Landfill As Rescuers Work To Save More Than 800 Dogs From Freezing To Death

Many dogs around the world enjoy warm homes and families who love and care for them, but not all dogs are that lucky. Some find themselves alone in the cold with little hope of a better life. These dogs search for food and shelter anywhere they can get it, but too many of them still end up with nothing to show for their effort.

Rescuers Without Borders is a nonprofit organization that saves as many homeless dogs as possible. They often search in landfills because the trash and discarded food attract animals that have nowhere else to go. This is a story about an 8-year-old Kangal shepherd named Kratos.

Like many other dogs in his situation, Kratos was stuck in the landfill without much food, water or shelter.

He managed to survive on what little food he found in trash bags and discarded boxes. But more than 800 other dogs were also in the landfill, and they could not find enough food for each dog to eat. The months of summer and fall were not too bad, but things get much worse in the cold months of winter.

The lack of food combines with the cold air to make life all but impossible. Kratos was tired, hungry, cold and ready to give up. He found a place between trash piles that offered a small escape from the bitter wind.

At this point, Kratos did not even have enough energy to stand up on his own. Lying on the ground, he knew his life was over and that nobody cared enough to step in and help.

Right before he closed his eyes for the final time, a miracle happened. Several members of Rescuers Without Boarders spotted Kratos and picked him up just in time. Back at the shelter, they gave him food, water and medicine.

But most of all, they gave him something the 8-year-old dog thought he would never have: love. The organization that saved Kratos are happy they found him before it was too late, and one member mentioned that some stories do get happy endings.

Even though he is in the best possible hands, it will take months before Kratos is back to full health. The organization will put Kratos in touch with a loving family as soon as he is ready.

Thankfully, many people with big hearts are willing to take in dogs that have nowhere else to turn. Kratos’ story could have had a different ending, but the better angels of human nature prevailed.
