Abandoned Dog Discovered With Mouth Taped Shut Is Now Sheriff's Brave Deputy ‘Chance’

Apr 02, 2019 by apost team

A canine at the Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) in Southwest Florida is living his best life now. Deputy Chance was found abandoned with his mouth taped shut, having suffered cruel abuse. The pooch has slowly regained his health and is now a part of the sheriff's office performing a variety of community service activities.

Lee County Domestic Animal Services found the dog roaming the streets after fielding a call from a concerned citizen. In addition to the red electrical tape across his mouth, Chance was suffering from dehydration and starvation. The poor dog was also bleeding and was visibly distressed. The employees at animal services took Chance to a veterinarian for immediate care.

After Chance was back on his feet, he was adopted in early March 2019 by Deputy Richard Castellon. Sheriff Carmine Marceno was thrilled to welcome Chance to their team, putting him to work out in the community. Marceno is now committed more than ever to crack down on animal abuse. The goal is to enact stiffer penalties with the hopes of deterring the abuse.

Chance was officially deputized on Thursday, March 7, 2019. Since then, he has been kept busy attending ribbon-cutting ceremonies and spreading joy to children. The LCSO loves having Chance around, they even take the time to spread pictures of him in action on their Facebook page.
