Posing before her 1957 Chevy Bel Air in 2011, Grace Braeger reveals that it is the only car that she has driven. This shiny black vehicle has a red interior that adds to its sporty appearance. With a license plate that reads "57 Lady," Ms. Braeger's car holds many memories for its proud owner. This treasured vehicle also represents the care and frugality of an individual who was brought up to cherish things of value, a worthy lesson for everyone.

She Has Owned Automobile for 63 Years

For those who remember when the 1957 Chevrolet, especially the Bel Air Sport Coupé and its spectacular chrome, made its appearance on the streets and at the drive-ins, it quickly became popular. Ms. Braeger's Chevy is representative of the "Happy Days" of the '50s when Chevrolet was the American Car. It has chrome wheel covers and the body is streamlined with chrome strips down the middle and bottom of the sides, large chrome bumpers and chrome-trimmed headlight pods to match all the chrome around the windows. To this day, this 1957 Chevy turns heads, just as like models did at the drive-in movie parking lot or the beach or any of the teen hang-outs in the 1950s.

1957 Chevy is an Iconic Model

After the halcyon days of the 1950s passed, newer automobiles with powerful engines and advanced features had a great appeal. Still, the '57 Chevy maintained a certain attraction with its sporty, streamlined appearance. Later on, those teens who had grown into the roles of husbands and fathers became nostalgic for the iconic Chevy that was "more than just a car" for them.

Many a 1957 Chevy has been remodeled and sold.

Bel Airs and other models of the 1957 Chevy were refurbished and reappeared on the road. Ms. Braeger never strayed from her devotion to the iconic model she owned. Having been a child during the Great Depression, she learned the importance of taking care of whatever she possessed. While it seems apparent that some work may have been performed on her vehicle, Ms. Braeger has preserved its original appearance. In 1957 she purchased her car for $2,250 before the 1958 models were released she told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. At the time the video was recorded she had been driving it for 53 years. Today, a refurbished Bel Air can go for anywhere from $32,000.00 to $75,000.00 on eBay.
