Despite early success at work, Barrymore's home life was floundering. The young actress found herself addicted to alcohol and drugs by the age of 13. An unhealthy lifestyle practiced by her parents was a large reason for this downward spiral.

Barrymore legally divorced her parents at the age of 14. By 15, she was struggling to find a job in the industry because of her family. Barrymore hit rock bottom at age 16 and found herself cleaning toilets just to get by. Slowly but surely, Barrymore began to get back up on her feet. Now at age 44, Barrymore has built an empire of successful acting and directorial accomplishments.

When she was only seven years old, Barrymore captured the heart of the nation after appearing on the "Johnny Carson Show." The legendary talk show host handled his interview with the young girl with the ease of a grandfather talking to his beloved granddaughter.
