In today’s world, leaving the house can seem scary with constant news stories about criminal activities and violence. It seemed especially scary for Julie Dragland, a 32-year-old who boarded San Francisco’s BART train and headed for her destination. The trip seemed to be going according to plan when the passenger seated behind Julie passed her a frightening note.

The note, which was written in red ink, informed Julie that she had two guns pointed at her, prepared to fire. It warned that, if Julie wanted to survive the trip, then she needed to discretely hand back her wallet and phone without turning to look at her attacker. The note finished the warning that she would only live if she didn’t turn around until after she had left the Civic Center behind.

Julie was understandably frightened. She was unsure what to do, but she knew that she didn’t want to give in to the criminal’s wishes. She reports that she did think that it seemed unlikely that she would be shot for a phone and wallet; however, no one can be too careful. Thinking fast, Julie decided to take surprise action!

Rather than handing back her belongings, Julie slumped over on her seat and began to fake a seizure. Thanks to her quick thinking, her performance attracted the attention of other bus riders who rushed to her aid, anxious to ensure that she was okay. Because of this act, Julie was able to escape the criminal and her possessions remained intact.

Sadly, the criminal got away in the process; however, police are reviewing video surveillance and are on the lookout for the woman who sent the handwritten note. The suspect was likely in her thirties and is tall with blonde hair.

Police believe that the criminal didn’t actually have a gun, but was instead simply bluffing in an attempt to convince Julie to hand over her money and phone. Thankfully, Julie didn’t fall for the threat and instead used a technique that she learned from “Law and Order” to save the day.

The police explain that they have never encountered a case quite like this one!
