A Remote, Frozen Mountain Lake Is No Match For This Nationally Ranked Ice Skater

For experienced athletes who are frequently indoors, there's nothing quite like getting to experience the outside world. For three-time bronze medalist Elizabeth Putnam, being in unfamiliar territory outdoors can be just as exhilarating as the Olympics!

To find new places to skate, she often turns to her backyard, the Canadian wilderness. This is only a natural choice, given how much wildlife and beauty there is to be found around her!

Elizabeth's favorite location? Frozen lakes that are 2,500 meters high. To reach them, she has to have a helicopter ride to the top, after which the Olympian can indulge as much as she likes in skating on high-altitude lakes.

If you don't think this could be any more cool, you'll be glad to hear that recently she collaborated with Pilot Bradley Friesen to film a compelling video of Putnam while she skated across a lake in the mountains of British Columbia. As artists, Friesen's videography combine with Putnam's elegance to make a truly dazzling video. As Putnam glides across the ice, Friesen follows, combining different angles and perspectives to really push you face-first into the action.

Alongside the video is a wonderful song by Delaney Kai that makes the moment all the more special. It's one thing to do these endeavors in private, but to not only collaborate but also share it with the world is something really intimate and beautiful. It's great to know that even when not competing some athletes stick true to what they believe, and want to share their passion with the world.

Show this breathtaking video with your friends to give them a little bit of wanderlust, too!
