This story will touch your heart and blow your mind at the same time. Diana Kim was inspired to study photography by her father, whom she hadn't seen since she was a child.

While shooting photographs of homeless men and women on the streets one day, she made a stunning discovery.

One of the men she'd photographed was her dad.

According to NBC, Diana parents divorced when she was 5-years-old. It was difficult for Diana and her mother. They spent time living in their car or staying with friends and relatives. Diana's father was no longer in the picture. He faded from her life.

This experience made Diana interested in capturing the plight of others who, typically through no fault of their own, wound up on the streets.

In college, she began photographing these homeless people. She understood how they felt and wanted to shine a light on a group of people often ignored or forgotten.

She was in Honolulu when she came face-to-face with her father. Stunned, she tried to reconnect with him, but he wouldn't or couldn't communicate with her. His physical and mental condition had deteriorated.

Diana tried over and over to speak with him, but he ignored her.

Diana wasn't willing to give up. She saw that her father was in terrible shape. She wanted to help him. Time after time, she visited him. Time after time, it did no good. Diana had only her photographs of him.

Her father's health got worse. He had a heart attack. Luckily, someone saw what was happening and called for help. He was admitted to the hospital. During his recovery, he also received the mental health treatment that he'd so desperately needed.

With his mental health improving, Diana tried connecting with him again.

This time it worked. Diana and her father have been able to bond and work on their relationship after all these years. They're eagerly making up for lost time.

As for Diana, she feels that this story is about more than just her relationship with her father. It's also about seeing and acknowledging the homeless. She'd like for her story to remind everyone that living on the streets shouldn't strip a person of his or her humanity.

Diana followed her instincts and refused to give up on her father. Would you have done the same in her situation? If her kindness inspired you, let us know and spread the message by showing this story to your loved ones!
