A Look Inside Princess Diana's Godson Prince Philippos Wedding To Nina Flohr

Oct 26, 2021 by apost team

Princess Diana was universally loved by not only the British public but by people the world over. She used her influence to enact good, spending much of her time campaigning for humanitarian causes that improved the lives of others. She sat with people who were ill, helping to break the stigma of the then-new diseases HIV and AIDS. These are the reasons she became known as the "People's Princess" — she was a shining beacon of light in the royal family.

It's been nearly 24 years since she tragically passed away, but whenever we see photos of her it's still incredibly moving. This is a testament to how much the public adored her, and she's still often talked about and even featured in the media, whether for her charitable deeds or impeccable fashion sense.

Diana's early death in 1997 devastated not only the British royal family but also fans across the globe. In the wake of her passing, memorabilia to her quickly rose to prominence. Today, she continues to be celebrated for everything she stood for, and people whose lives she touched try to continue her legacy.

In October 2021, Diana's godson Prince Philippos married Nina Flohr for the third time in a year in a beautiful intimate ceremony that took place in Athens, Greece. The event was attended by several notable members of different European monarchies, which included both Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Philippos and Princess Nina were previously seen also attending Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's wedding which took place in October 2018.

PEOPLE reported Philippos and Nina's engagement in September 2020 was officially announced in a statement, "Their Majesties King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie are delighted to announce the engagement of their youngest son HRH Prince Philippos to Nina Nastassja Flohr, daughter of Thomas Flohr and Katharina Flohr."

The couple first got married back in December 2020 at the exclusive Swiss ski resort St. Moritz. The small ceremony was due to Switzerland's strict COVID-19 restrictions, which only allowed the couple's respective fathers to witness the surprise nuptials.

Flohr posted a photo of herself and Philippos snuggling in front of a snow-covered mountain at the time, which was captioned, "Just married (civilly)." Vogue reported that Nina previously worked as the creative director of VistaJet, which is a private jet company started by her father Thomas.

Nina and Philippos' second wedding was a springtime high society event in Cambridgeshire and was hosted by Vogue writer Alice Naylor-Leyland and her husband Tom at their home, Stibbington House according to PEOPLE

This made the October 2021 event the third celebration for the couple and was indeed a lavish ceremony. It featured all of the pomp and circumstance that all royal weddings have in common even though Philippos' family is now no longer reigning. The wedding ceremony also marked the first time a Greek royal has married at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens since Philippos’s parents, Constantine and Anne-Marie, exchanged vows there in 1964.

The wedding was also the first religious event held at the cathedral for a member of the family since the christening of Philippos’s older brother Prince Pavlos in 1967.

The Greek royal family doesn't hold any power, and Vanity Fair reported that Constantine had even been in exile for decades. Diana was present at Philippos's christening and was just one of his many notable godparents, who also include King Juan Carlos of Spain, Princess Beneditke of Denmark, Penelope Knatchbull as well as the late Prince Philip

According to Vanity Fair, Nina's title is now Princess Nina of Greece and Denmark. Nina's mother, Katharina Konečný, is a founding editor at the Russian edition of Vogue and a creative director at Fabergé. This means that Nina has been inspired by a fashion icon mother, and is well connected to the fashion world herself.

For her wedding, Vogue reported that she wore “a white silk moire taffeta gown, modified from Chanel’s 2021 Autumn Winter Couture Collection." Furthermore, they report that she “topped her gown with a lengthy silk tulle veil and the antique corsage pearl and diamond floral tiara, a diadem of Scandinavian royal origin that Queen Anne-Marie inherited weeks before her marriage to King Constantine.”

A lot of notable figures were in attendance during Nina and Philippos' wedding, among who were Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank who represented Great Britain. Other European royals included Prince Ernst August and Princess Ekaterina of Hanover, Prince Christian and Princess Alessandra of Hanover, Queen Sofia of Spain and Princess Tatiana Radziwill.

This wedding is certainly one to remember, and may even be the royal wedding of the year. However, Lady Kitty Spencer, Diana's niece, also had an incredible wedding in June 2021, and may provide fierce competition as the royal wedding event of the year!
