A House Fire Kills Her Family and Destroys Her Body, But This 9-Year-Old Girl Refuses To Give Up

In Schenectady, New York in 2013 the Terry home was invaded by an unknown assailant. The intruder covered the house in gasoline and lit the house on fire. Safyre Terry was the only survivor was a very young Safyre Terry. Her father and her three siblings died in the fire. While Safyre survived, she was burned on 75 percent of her body.

Due to the severity of her injuries, she lost her right hand. However, her attacker has yet to be brought to justice. Safyre’s estranged mother was put in jail for lying to the police about where she was that night as well as an ex of Safyre’s father’s love interest. However, neither of them were charged with the crime.

Safyre was placed with her aunt, Liz, when she was well enough to leave the hospital. Liz tried to focus more on the recovery more than the retribution. She even started a Facebook page to document Safyre’s recover. Slowly, she began asking the fans for small favors such as cards and cupcakes.

However, she got way more than she asked for. People donated a combined total of about $388,000. Someone even gifted Safyre with a trip to Disney World. Safyre didn’t want to just be gifted items. She wanted to give back as well.

Today, at 9 years old, she has her own non-profit organization. She has helped over 100 families who lost their homes to fire. She has big dreams for the future!
