With endless styles and inconsistent sizes on the market, it can be hard to find the right bra. Plus, even if you love your bra improper care can shorten its lifespan. We hope this collection of tips helps you discover and care for the bra of your dreams.

1. Figure out your breast shape.

The kind of bra that's going to work for you depends on the shape of your breasts, and this guide from ThirdLove can help you figure out the best bras for your shape. It's also helpful to know about the different parts of a bra so you can find exactly what you need.

2. Get measured by a professional.

Once you know what style you need, head out to the store and get your measurements in person. Most bra stores and department stores will have somebody on hand to help you out. If it's truly an impossibility, you can try measuring yourself at home.

3. Try on lots of bras before buying.

Even if a bra is the right shape and size, it can still feel wrong on your body. This is especially important if your breasts aren't symmetrical, a totally normal phenomenon. If that's the case, choose the bra that fits the bigger breast and adjust as needed. It should be snug and level when clasped on the middle hook. If it rides up it's too small, and if you can fit your hand through the band it's too big.

4. Know how to put it on properly.

For smaller breasts, once the bra is hooked you should bend over and wiggle while pulling the cups downwards. This ensures that all of your breast is in the bra. Larger breasts will need to be scooped from the bottom to get the same fit.

5. Remember that a bra isn't forever.

When carefully cared for, a bra can last up to a year. However, bras receiving the average amount of care wear out within six months. For best results, have a minimum of three bras to rotate between so that you can clean them and let the elastic rest. Washing should be done by hand with gentle soap and they should be air dried. Storing them stacked front to back in a drawer divider can also help.

6. Be prepared for all your bra needs.

It's important to have comfortable bras for day to day wear, but if you've got a hot date you won't want to have one worn-out t-shirt bra to turn to. Consider having bras for special occasions, daily wear, and relaxing at home so you're always ready for what life throws at you. Bralettes and sports bras are also great to have on hand.

Being a woman is hard enough, and the hassle of dealing with uncomfortable bras is a bridge too far. We hope these tips have eliminated some stress from your life and helped you feel more comfortable in the skin you're in.
