A "Friends" Reunion Special Is Reportedly In Negotiations

After years of rumors, it appears that television audiences are finally going to get what they want with a "Friends" reunion special.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that all six members of the hit sitcom's original cast are in talks to star in an unscripted special to be aired on HBO Max. Although there is no official deal yet, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer would appear in the show with the original creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman.

HBO Max recently had to engage in a bidding war with Netflix to gain the rights to the show. The HBO streaming service is set to launch in 2020 with "Friends" leaving Netflix at the end of this year.

If all goes according to plan, the HBO Max special will be the first time that the six cast members have been together for a public event since the show's series finale in 2004. Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, and Schwimmer appeared together in 2016 to celebrate the accomplishments of director James Burrows, however, Perry couldn't make it according to the tabloid. 

Despite all of the buzz around the reunion special, cast members are adamant that there will be no reboot of the show. Jennifer Aniston appeared on the Ellen Degeneres show this year saying that there would not be a "Friends" reboot. But she added, "We would love for there to be something, but we don't know what that something is. So we're just trying. We're working on something."
