A Dog Wrapped Himself Around An Abandoned Two Year Old And Kept Him Alive In Freezing Weather

They say that a dog is man’s best friend. Indeed there are many heart-warming stories that give credit to this statement. One such incident happened in Russia, when a dog literally saved a young boy’s life.

In western Russia, there is a place far beyond the Ural Mountains, where you get your first view of the expansive Siberia vista. The area is characterized by very cold winds and foothills completely covered in layers of snow.

Siberian winters can spell death for many people, and this was nearly the case for a young boy who was left in the cold after his parents abandoned him.

The boy was exposed to great danger after his mother left him on a stranger’s unheated porch, as reported in The Siberian Times.

At night, the temperature plummeted to -12 degrees Celsius (10.4 degrees Fahrenheit) and under such bitter conditions, not many people would have thought it possible for the young one to live.

The unnamed boy was left outside a house in Loktevsky district, in the Altai region of Southern Siberia, a short distance from the Kazakhstan border.

Luckily, a dog residing in the house noticed the abandoned boy.

In an effort to protect the boy from the extreme temperatures, the dog wrapped his body around him. The boy was able to survive in the cold for a whole two days, thanks to the heat from the dog’s body and fur coat. This was until neighbors spotted both the dog and the boy.

By the time officials arrived at the scene, the boy had suffered acute hypothermia. Were it not for the shelter that the dog provided, the situation would have been much worse. There is a possibility that the boy would have frozen to death.

Since that time, the boy has made full recovery. His mother who had abandoned him, on the other hand, has faced child abuse charges.
