A Delivery Driver Rescued A Drowning Dog During His Shift

In August, a Massachusetts delivery driver saved a dog's life after spotting the animal drowning in a swimming pool. The dog could barely keep his snout above water.
It's a story that could have ended in tragedy. But thanks to the heroics of one Amazon driver, a family dog was rescued from a pool and returned to its loving family.

As reported by CBS Boston News, the animal's snout belonged to Luka, a 14-year-old husky who lives with the family. Normally, dogs are fairly strong swimmers. But Luka's back legs are starting to fail in his old age. And when he jumped into the pool to retrieve a bone that was stuck in the pool vent, it appears that this poor pooch bit off a little more than he could chew.
At some point, his back legs gave out and he started struggling to stay afloat in the water. If John hadn't come along at the right time, it's anyone's guess what could have happened to this unlucky dog.

John Cassabria was in the right place at the right time
Speaking with CBS, John said that his heart sank when he saw the snout bobbing up and down in the pool. Without a second thought, he jumped into the deep end of the pool while still wearing his driver's uniform and rescued the struggling dog from the water.
"I thought only of the dog at that moment," he said in an interview.
And it's a good thing he did because no one else was coming to save Luka. His family was on vacation. They had only been on vacation for a few hours when John called them to tell them what happened.
A hero with a heart of gold
Despite his heroic act, John insists that he was just "in the right place at the right time," and he would do it all over again if he had to. Some people might have walked away from the situation, but John jumped into action without a moment's notice. Later on, he even got the chance to take a selfie with the dog while wearing his Amazon gear.
The pool is safely covered in plastic now — and it's probably a good thing because Luka is clearly an adventurous pooch even in his advanced years. Let's hope that he stays out of trouble from now on!
Whatever the case, Luka and his family will always remember John as the man who heroically risked his own life to save an innocent dog. It's safe to say that he'll be a local celebrity for months or even years to come.
