A Deep Dive Into Chelsea Clinton's Relationship With Her Mother Hillary

Chelsea Clinton, First Child of the United States from 1993 until 2001, has a close-knit relationship with her mother Hillary. Chelsea was born on February 27th, 1980 in Arkansas. 

According to the New York Times, Chelsea’s name was inspired by the song "Chelsea Morning," by Judy Collins. The two seem to have a close relationship, as Chelsea has often been vocal about her support and admiration for her mother. In 2015, she told Ellen DeGeneres:

“I didn’t know that I could love and admire and respect my mom any more, until I became a mom. And [I] couldn’t believe any more in her as the right leader for the country I want my daughter to grow up in.”

But that wasn’t the only time she had something affectionate to say about the former Secretary of State. In the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, the author introduced her mother with the warmest of words:

"She’s a woman driven by compassion, by faith, by a fierce sense of justice and a heart full of love," she told the crowd, as per Roll Call. Chelsea also revealed that Hillary is someone she looks up to, both as a mother and as an advocate.

"Whenever my mom was away for work, which thankfully didn’t happen very often, she left notes for me to open when she was gone," she added according to Roll Call. "I treasured each and every one of those notes. They were another reminder that I was always in her thoughts and in her heart."

The mother-of-three has always been a fierce supporter of her mother throughout her political career. In 2007, she campaigned with her during her bid for the presidency. She described Hilary as her “hero and her mother” at the Democratic National Convention in 2008. She once again campaigned for her mother in 2016.

Chelsea was barely 13 years old when she moved into the White House in 1993 and hasn’t been shy to the public since. She has been married to investment banker Marc Mezvinsky since 2010, with whom she has three children.
