A Dancer Approaches A Mormon Messenger

Aug 26, 2020 by apost team

Have you ever seen a Mormon try to breakdance? In this video, Elder Gus Garcia shows off his moves in the presence of an incredibly talented street performer on the streets of Barcelona, Spain. Although he doesn't outdo the artist, he certainly puts on a show for the crowd.

The Spirit of Michael Jackson

The performer in this video isn't identified directly, but he appears to be dressed as an homage to Michael Jackson. The jacket, the hat, the shoes, and the dancing style are all a match; even if it isn't a direct impersonation, there's definitely a similar artistic vibe.

The street artist's limbs move like magic as he dances to Jackson's famous Just Beat It, which drifts out of a nearby boombox and echoes off the pavement. With the way his feet slide, it looks like the ground is made out of water and he's just drifting on through.

Mormon Elder Knows Some Moves

After the street artist shows his stuff, the Mormon elder is given his turn to dance. He doesn't have the same footwork or fluidity, but he knows how to use his arms. The audience is treated to a bit of miming as the elder moves an imaginary ball down his arms and around his torso.

The dance was unexpected, and the audience was impressed by how well the elder performed. But the most thrilling part of the video occurs when the imaginary ball is passed back to the street performer - and he catches it, continuing the mime show as if he had planned it the entire time.

Keeping the Crowd Entertained

As the video goes on, the two performers continue to engage in a back-and-forth of dance while the audience cheers. Both missionaries and artists know that crowds want to see a spectacle, and few things are more thrilling than a seemingly impromptu performance.

Like all good kinds of street art, the magic of this dance only lasts for a few moments. But during this time, the street was a stage, these two men were friends, and audiences from across the world were able to set aside their differences in order to enjoy a bit of old-fashioned fun.

This kind of street performance is popular around the globe. Does your town have street dancing? Either way, remember to pass this post along to someone who might be interested.
