A Border Collie Watches Herself Triumph In A Competition

A competitive dog named Kirk won an agility contest but that wasn't the end of the excitement for her, she got to watch herself win on television and was just as enthusiastic as she was in the contest itself.

It was the 2017 Small Dog Agility competition at the 2017 Incredible Dog Challenge Western Regionals hosted by Purina Pro Plan. Kirk and her handler Channon Fosty had to run through an obstacle course including ladders, jumps, and slaloms. The speedy pup raced through the entire thing like a rocket, while dominating each obstacle with ease. Speed and agility are characteristics of Border Collies which make them great compeition dogs.

The video description notes that Border Collies are easily trained and were initially brought into competitions all the way back in the 1800s in Britain. They are originally sheepherders and have taken those herding skills and a keen sense of smell to agility contests.

They don't just excel at agility contests but also flying disk (choreographed Frisbee performances) and flyball (team-based sprint races) categories. Border Collies have been depicted as herders on screen in a few instances like Rex and Fly in the farm movie "Babe," and Bandit from "Little House on the Prairie."

Kirk is seen jumping up and down in front of the screen as she excitedly watches herself race and weave through the course. It's like she is taking after her namesake, Captain Kirk from "Star Trek" and trying to get beamed up.

It's so nice to see Kirk so proud of herself. If you'd like to spread some cheer to others, send them this article today.
