A Beautiful Black German Shepherd Was Found Left By His Kennel On The Side Of The Road

For a dog lover, just thinking about a lost dog or one that's been left behind creates a feeling that hits close to home. No one wants to imagine their own dog being lost, alone, or scared. And no caring dog owner respects the irresponsibility of someone intentionally leaving or endangering a dog.

Richard Jordan, a Police officer, got one of those concerned feelings when his friend called him about a dog crate near the woods by the side of the road in Louisiana. It was unclear whether the dog crate had been left on purpose, or whether it had somehow fallen from a vehicle. But either way, Jordan found a crate and a dog, whose name is Borel, with no owner in sight.

After receiving the call, Jordan decided to go to see the dog.

"I went out there as was so sad for him," Jordan tells Apost. "The crate had no abrasion from a potential fall from a truck, and the door was opened."

Jordan contacted local animal services and cautiously approached the dog. The beautiful black German shepherd seemed skittish and scared. But Jordan described the animal as a “beautiful, top-notch dog.”

"There was no food, water, or blankets in the crate," Jordan added. "I spent about 45 minutes with him in the woods, (laying on my back in a submissive pose) and he finally warmed up to me."

It remained unclear whether Borel was left behind near the road intentionally, or whether his crate was lost accidentally. Either way, getting the dog to a safe home is a priority that many people were concerned about. And, many people stepped forward, available to adopt the beautiful German shepherd.

Jordan suspects that Borel may have been a victim of "fad breeding" or "fad buying." It's an unfortunate situation that worries animal rescuers and dog enthusiasts. Too often, people buy popular breeds of dog, without thinking it through.

Sometimes, new-favorite dog breeds are much sought after by people who aren't prepared for the long-term responsibility of caring for a dog. Other times, dog owners choose a dog breed just for its popularity, without considering whether they're ready for the energy and personality of that particular dog breed. In any case, Jordan's attentiveness has gotten Borel out of the woods, literally. Noticing and caring about an endangered dog has made all the difference.
