Each day Doug goes to his local fast food restaurant and orders his favorite meals. One of his very favorites is the roast beef sandwich with Swiss cheese and a Coke. Why is Doug’s visit unique? Read on to find out why.

Doug, a 97-year-old World War II veteran, routinely enjoys the food at his local sandwich restaurant. Doug can’t eat some foods because they are too greasy or overly spicy. But Doug can eat many of the tasty items on the menu at his neighborhood fast food restaurant, and chooses to eat there nearly every day.

One of the reasons that Doug can eat at this particular restaurant is because the staff there loves him and makes his food just the way he likes it, as well as making the food precisely to his specifications. For instance, Doug needs to have his Coke without ice. Ice in his Coke upsets his stomach due to a stomach disorder.

Not only does Doug get excellent food, but he also employees the fellowship of the food chain's employees. The crew at this fast food restaurant love Doug.

They look forward to his daily visits. They escort him to his favourite table. Each member of the restaurant's crew has Doug’s phone number.

They use it when he can’t make it to the store. When Doug can’t make it, the employees deliver lunch directly to him at his retirement home.

The restaurant's customers continue to comment about the way the employees at this store treat Doug. And Doug thoroughly enjoys the attention he gets from them, too. One day, diners were thrilled to see the store’s manager, Christina Gamage, give their favorite customer, Doug a surprise gift especially for him.

All of the employees got together and gathered their money to provide Doug with $200 of restaurant gift cards as they lavished him with extra attention.

These kind, caring employees wanted to make sure Doug could continue to come back and see them for a while.

“You got to be kidding me!” Doug said. At first, the veteran couldn’t believe his eyes. And then he laughed and cracked jokes with the restaurant's employees who appreciate his being there every day.

Even though Doug knows he won’t be able to go to the restaurant every day forever, he does enjoy the time he gets to spend at the food chain with his friends, the employees.

Doug no longer has a family, and the restaurant's staff has become like a family to him.

Then, the story was posted on Social Media and promptly went viral.

Store manager Christina Gamage told Fox 10 news that the staff was so touched by Doug and his reaction to their gift that the store decided to give him free food for the rest of his life. Once the story hit the news, a neighborhood optometrist even stopped by and offered Doug free eye care, too.
