The legend of Santa Claus is a popular tale that most parents tell their children at Christmas time. Every Christmas Eve, millions of children eagerly await the arrival of Santa and his reindeer.

One of the most important parts of the story of St. Nick is his workshop in the North Pole. With the help of his elves, Santa works around the clock all year long to make enough toys for all the children of the world. An elderly gentleman from Pennsylvania has drawn strong comparisons to Father Christmas for his mission of making toys for the children of his community.

93-year-old Ed Higinbotham has been making hand-made toys for the children of Georges Township for the past several years. Speaking with reporters from Action News 4 in Pittsburgh, Ed says that he spends all year making the toys, which are wooden cars, trucks, and tractors so that every child in his community has a gift for the Christmas holiday.

As Ed makes the toys by hand at his home workshop, each and every toy that Ed donates is unique.

This year, Ed has been able to make around 300 toys for the children of Georges Township, such a large number that the local police department offered to help him distribute them. State trooper Robert Broadwater spearheaded the department’s efforts to distribute the toys this year and has become one of Ed’s biggest fans in the community. Trooper Broadwater told reporters that kids love Ed’s toys.

Not only do the children appreciate being gifted a handmade toy, many personalize them by painting them in unique ways.
