93-Year-Old Dies From Broken Heart Syndrome After Three Men Broke Into Her Home

A 93-year-old woman died of what experts call broken heart syndrome a few months after three men broke into her home and ransacked it. After the shocking break-in occurred, Betty Munroe began to suffer from PTSD. From then on, her health deteriorated. It only took a few months for the woman to succumb to heart problems.

According to the Mirror, the thieves gained entry into the woman’s home after forcing their way in through the back door. Munroe, who lived in Boothville, Northampton, said that the trio had garden shears and kept her prisoner in her home. They also convinced her that they were police officers.

Of course, they were up to no good. The three took all of her jewelry, her purse, and her bank cards. Included in the jewelry was her late husband’s watch. After ransacking the rest of her home, they were able to make their escape. At the moment, they still remain on the run.

Betty struggled with her health for months after the robbery. Her family stated that she had problems with her heart and was diagnosed with Takotsubo Syndrome, a condition otherwise known as "broken heart syndrome."

The Northamptonshire police force talked to reporters about the incident, saying [as cited by the Mirror]that Betty had a lot of health problems after the robbery. She was eventually diagnosed with PTSD and dealt with repeated nightmares, sleep issues, and nausea. After a long stay in the hospital, she was diagnosed with broken heart syndrome. She passed away just this past week in a care home.

The family of the woman has released a statement concerning their relative:

"Before the burglary, she was happy and living independently in her home of 56 years," the statement read as cited by the Mirror. "The violent actions of these callous individuals robbed her not only of precious possessions but of her sense of security and peace and the will to go on."

The robbery happened a few months ago on June 11, 2019. Betty had lived in her house for decades and had been on her own for some time. While she was independent and in good health, the robbery affected her deeply after. After her health deteriorated, she died in a care home surrounded by her loving family.
