Regardless of whether you are over a hundred or you’re only a little kid, it’s vital to spend your life doing what you love. No matter how old we get before we leave this world, we are always young at heart.

Julia Tourtellotte of Summerville, North Carolina felt this was particularly true. She turned 91 last year, and she didn’t let anything slow her down. She is known in her community as a caring grandmother and a dedicated choreographer.

She told the local newspaper that it just makes her feel good to move her body to the tune. She loves dancing. However, her love for dancing is specific. She loves clogging!

However, last year she noticed she was starting to feel a sharp pain in her leg. At first, she went to the doctor who gave her some shots. When these shots no longer helped her feel better, she decided to seek out other options.

One of the first things she did was meet with Dr. Abino D’Agostino who worked at the Trident Medical Center. He is a neurosurgeon that was working on an innovative surgery. Tourtellotte underwent surgery to the spine that helped her get back in the swing of things in no time, and she was back in her clogs soon after.

Dr. D’Agostino used a robotic arm to conduct a spinal surgery which is a risk for someone as old as Tourtellotte is. Her dancing and constant activity made her a good candidate because she was in such good health, even though she was 91!

The doctor said she was absolutely remarkable. When she went in for the procedure, he laughed and the entire office wanted half of her energy. The clogging instructor at Faith Sellers Senior center was able to regain her rhythm quickly after the surgery.

She even went back to the hospital a few months later to show the doctor just how well she was doing.

She danced down the halls with her doctor to everyone’s surprise.

She was determined not to let her age slow her down or keep her from doing what she loved. She wants to live as much as possible, and she wasn’t going to let pain stop her. She just needed a little help to deal with the pain.

The doctor remarked that his dancing skills were nowhere near the grandmothers!
