A dance floor in Phoenix, Arizona, got a breath of fresh air from an incredible dancer. We're talking specifically about the Arizona Lindy Hop Society dance event in 2019. The performances were so great that you had to see it to believe it. That's why a large crowd gathered to watch the famous then 90-year-old dancer Jean Phelps Veloz rock-step, twist, and swingout her way around the floor, all with a big smile on her face.

Although her dance partner was the excellent Steve Conrad, a Swing and Lindy Hop instructor, all eyes were on Veloz as she showed the crowd she still had the skills to wow an audience. She wasn't just going to make an appearance and end by waving to everyone. Instead, she gave another burst of energy to the Lindy Hop that began in Los Angeles and made a comeback starting in the 1990s, continuing to the present day.

It had been decades since she kicked off the 40s with Hollywood films Groovie Movie and Swing Fever. However, that didn't stop her from dancing the years away with her youthful spirit.

Time has not slowed down the lively light-footed lady with an exciting history of many competitions and performances. She has kept active by continuing to dance and making live appearances, proving that her golden years are just as vibrant and beautiful as the ones past.

While Veloz performed moves she did in 1943 in Swing FeverGroovie Movie is the most famous and beloved movie she has starred in. In fact, dancers study her moves in it to learn the Hollywood-style Lindy Hop. Veloz was and is still the icon of the Hollywood-style version of the American fusion swing dance that originated in Harlem, New York.

She also continues to uphold a reputation as one of the top West Coast Swing dancers. In 1996, she was inducted into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame. She now focuses on performing and teaching the new generation of swing dancers. She participates regularly in the Lindy Hop community which treats her like family.

Nobody will ever forget the appearance Veloz made at the Arizona Lindy Hop Society dance event. The graceful lady will not be retiring from the dance floor, either. If anyone wanted motivation to start or keep dancing regardless of age, she's the one to inspire them.
