90-Year-Old Figure Skater Captivates Hearts With Performance

You might be cool, but you're nowhere near as cool as 90-year-old Yvonne Dowlen. She's living proof that age is no excuse not to do what you love - even if what you love is as physically demanding as competitive figure skating! She's been on this planet for nearly a century, but Yvonne is younger in spirit than anyone.

Yvonne first started skating as a child, and as an adult, she turned her passion into a career. She performed in the Ice Capades in the 1930s before moving to a teaching role, and she has been working with young figure skaters in Denver ever since. She still skates five times a week!

As if that weren't impressive enough, Yvonne is currently pursuing a new milestone as the world's oldest ever competitive figure skater. Figure skating was first recognized as an Olympic winter sport in 1908, not that long before Yvonne was born, relatively. You could say she's been skating nearly as long as the sport has existed.

Figure skating, of course, is not limited to the Olympics. Competitions exist for all levels, from novice to senior, and competitors usually perform one long program and one short program, each requiring a set number of spins, jumps and other skating moves.

Yvonne isn't limiting herself, either! There is even a documentary about her journey created by two filmmakers in Boulder, CO. It's not surprising they noticed Yvonne. She's certainly something special. The grace and passion she displays in her skating should make even the young'uns jealous!

Her love of classical music is clear as well, best seen when she lovingly bows an air violin during her routine. It's an inspiring performance, and not just because of her age. Yvonne's got moves!

More than that, she has a clear passion for skating and gives a truly engaging performance.
