9-Year-Old Girl Makes Birthday Boxes For Her Classmates Who Can’t Afford To Have Parties

A nine-year-old girl is in the spotlight for the generosity she has shown to classmates. The young girl spends time making custom birthday boxes for her classmates when they are unable to afford birthday parties.
Bella Smith was a first grader in 2017 when a classmate told her his family could not afford a birthday party for him.
She was immediately upset to learn her classmate would not be able to enjoy his special day with a party and gifts. It did not take her long to decide she would solve the matter on her own.
The idea she generated would eventually lead to the launch of 'Bella's Boxes'. While at it, she inspired others who were impressed with her display of goodwill to take part in the initiative.

Bella fills the boxes with treats like cake mix, sprinkles, and icings. The boxes also come with balloons attached to them.
How can she afford all these nice treats, you may ask? The answer: Local community members donate the items she uses to make the boxes. The industrious young girl set up a P.O. box to receive the donations.
Bella provides families who are experiencing difficult financial times with the birthday boxes she creates. She identifies these families with the help of the Family Resource Center at her school. This year alone her work has benefitted 65 families.
Bella was recently featured on an episode of Good Morning America. During her interview, Bella's mom, Marlana Evans, provided a perspective on her daughter's effort as well as the school she attends.
Bella's mother is also a teacher at Wyan-Pine Grove Elementary where Bella is now attending the third grade.
"The school she attends is a Title 1 school, which means 80% of the population here is impoverished -- so we have students that struggle with a lot of things," Evans explained to Good Morning America.
Evans says that she is very proud of Bella for the caring heart she has shown.
Bella's dedication to the project was never more evident than a month ago when her birthday came around:
Instead of presents for her own birthday, she asked family and friends for donations to create more birthday boxes!
