The first day of any job is nerve-wracking. You don't know quite what's going on and you are meeting a bunch of new people. It's tough on anyone. But, it's especially ruff if you are a nine-week-old puppy with a name like Cowgirl.

Vail Ski Resort is one of the busiest ski destinations in the U.S. They recently added Cowgirl as the latest member of their ski patrol, according to the American Kennel Club.

This little furry girl is a Nova Scotia duck trolling retriever. Besides being absolutely the cutest thing on four paws, she is also a hard worker and very intelligent. The American Kennel Club describes this breed as affectionate, intelligent, and very eager to please.

They have a lot of extra energy that works well with their athleticism, agility, and strength. They do well in jobs that require a lot of stamina, like patrolling the ski slopes.

Cowgirl had her first day on the job recently. Her handler, Kori Landauer, has been part of the ski patrol at Vail for the last six seasons. She's got experience working with the entire team of patrol dogs. A spokeswoman for Vail, Hannah Dixon, told the Denver Post that Cowgirl did very well on her first day.

Cowgirl's first task is to get used to everything going on around her at the resort. She is going to be riding chairlifts, snowcats, and gondolas. She will have loud machinery around her at times. She will often have other people and dogs nearby.

Her canine co-workers took an immediate shine to this little fuzzy girl. She has become an instant hit.

The other dogs have taken her under their proverbial wings, and she is fitting right in.
