85-Yr-Old Finds Precious Recording Of His Late Mother Singing

May 20, 2021 by apost team

Those who have lost loved ones understand how precious and valuable it would be to hear their voices one more time. Thanks to inventions like tape recorders and cell phones, we are now able to save special memories for years to come. An 85-year-old man was able to relive the memory of his late mother singing to him as a child when he found a long-forgotten tape in his home.

In a video that was posted to Instagram in May 2021, the man can be seen carefully placing the tape into the cassette player. He listens to his mother's voice for the first time in years and is filled with emotions. The song is "Thanks For The Buggy Ride" by Frank Crumit, and the man's mother used to sing it to him when he was young.

At first, the 85-year-old just listens quietly to his mother's voice. He then began to sing along to the old tune, still able to remember the lyrics after so many years. At one point, he was overcome with emotion and began to cry. It is incredibly moving to witness this precious moment of rediscovery.

In the caption on the Instagram post, the man's granddaughter shared that they struggled to find the tape player at first but were able to locate one somewhere in their house. Fine-motor tasks like putting the cassette into the player can be challenging for the older man as he has Parkinson's disease. However, his reaction after listening to the tape implies the effort was definitely worth it.

The story was shared by Good News Correspondent on Instagram. Melanie, the man's granddaughter, sent in the video and shared this message, "We searched the house for a cassette player (thankfully had one haha) & he put batteries in. It was a chore as he has Parkinson's but insisted on putting them in as he was so excited to see what was on the tape. What a gift."

Parkinson's disease is a long-term degenerative central nervous system disorder that primarily affects a person's motor ability. When a person is first affected by Parkinson's, the most apparent symptoms are slowness of movement, tremors, rigidity, and difficulty walking. Some of these symptoms can be seen in the older man from the video.

Outside of the motor system, Parkinson's disease can also cause cognitive and behavioral issues such as depression, anxiety, and apathy. The cause of the disorder is unknown, but it is believed that both inherited and environmental factors can play a role. This means that those with family members that have Parkinson's may also be at risk of developing the disease.

Parkinson's disease is a terrible disorder that takes away many freedoms from those who experience it. This video of the 85-year-old man shows viewers that even though there is difficulty in his life, there are still opportunities for treasured moments too. The man's mind is still sharp as well, as we can see when he begins to sing the lyrics to a song he likely hasn't heard in years. That song is "Thanks for the Buggy Ride" by Frank Crumit

Crumit was an American singer, songwriter, vaudeville star, and radio entertainer. He was active in show business from 1913 until he died in 1943. According to the Los Angeles Times, his radio programs also included his wife, Julia Sanderson, and they were known as the "ideal couple of the air," according to the Los Angeles Times. Crumit's biggest hit songs came in the 1920s and 30s, and they include "Frankie and Johnny" and "Round on the Ends."

The video of the man listening to his mother sing one of Crumit's songs has over 12,000 views on Instagram. The video is very touching, and some viewers stopped to share their reactions. "We live in a world where we can make pics, video and sound memories without even thinking about the value of it. This is so precious," wrote one commenter. They make a great point about the technology we use every day to create mementos without really considering how much we will value them later on in life.

The post was also shared on Good News Correspondent's Twitter page. Viewers shared their connections to the video there as well. One user had a very emotional response. "This is so sweet! My mom passed a month ago, so I'm feeling this so deep. Thanks for your job here," one commenter posted.

Another commenter shared that they felt very empathetic toward the older man. "He cried and he made me cry too! ... especially when he started singing along ... to remember the song after so many decades! It just goes to show how important the early years are," they wrote. Seeing the man cry is incredibly moving. Hopefully, he will be able to play that tape and remember his mother's voice for many more years.
