For over 60 years, Eileen Mackin had hoped and prayed that she would finally meet her biological mother. Earlier this year, that dream was realized.

The 81-year-old woman grew up in a Bethany Home Orphanage in Dublin, Ireland. Over the years, she spent countless hours searching for her birth mother. The mom of three wanted that connection with her own mother and she was determined to not give up on this dream.

After sharing her story on RTÉ Radio 1’s Liveline show, Eileen's luck changed when a genealogist offered to assist in the search for her long lost mother. Many believed it was a long shot because of the predicted age of her mother. While Eileen knew that it was unlikely that her mother was even still alive, she pressed on in her quest.

The determination paid off and Eileen located her 103-year-old mother, Elizabeth, living in Scotland. The bond was instant when Eileen surprised Elizabeth at her home. Eileen said that she been in a state of euphoria ever since the meeting.

The feeling was mutual. Elizabeth was reluctant to let her daughter go after being reunited with her after all of these years. Eileen also found that she has two half brothers.
