8-Year-Old Girl Overcome With Emotion When Dad Tells Her He's Cancer Free

Cancer is such a heartbreaking disease. Sadly, Chris Dickson, a 43-year-old from Morecambe, England, knows this well. He fought cancer for years, and, just when it seemed like it was relapsing, it would roar back stronger.
But at his side throughout was Maisy, his-8-year-old daughter, and you could tell how much she had been fighting this with her father when, after he unexpectedly returned home cancer-free days earlier than expected, she "flew down the stairs and screamed. She completely broke down," Dickson said. A tearful Maisy rushed to her dad. "I had never seen her like that before."
Six years ago, Dickson learned that he had cancer. Unfortunately, it was a resilient form that kept coming at him despite Dickson's best efforts to fight it off. Going through several rounds of tumor removal and chemotherapy resulted in the initial removal of 10 tumors before 16 more appeared and were removed too. The last step was the removal of his bladder. That operation was successful.

However, the bladder-removal surgery required him to spend an extended amount of recovery time in the hospital, which was expected to last for two weeks. Maisy had never been separated from her father overnight, but now she had to experience that night after night.
"Maisy has seen me battling cancer for six years, and it affected her too," Dickson said to The Daily Mail. "It was very traumatic for her. She visited me while I was in hospital and was distraught when she left. She completely broke down."
But he ended up progressing more quickly than expected and was released from the hospital just nine days into his recovery period.
Dickson decided to play a loving joke on his daughter. His wife told her to run upstairs and check her Snapchat as a message from her father was waiting for her. There was a message, but it was of Dickson on the family's couch, saying, "Come and give me a hug xxx." That's when Maisy raced downstairs and to her beloved father. At first, she appeared in disbelief. Then, she shrieked in delight. That's when it truly hit her, that he was actually right there, waiting for that hug, and she couldn't stop crying. He broke down too, saying, "I had never ever felt anyone show so much love towards me."
Have you ever found yourself in Maisy's situation, seeing someone who you love dearly have to fight a disease such as cancer for so long and endure so much pain and sacrifice?
