An eight-year-old boy in Ohio is receiving praise from police after saving his ten-year-old sister from a carjacking kidnapper.

The children accompanied their great-grandmother, Nita Coburn, while she took her daughter to the hospital. Coburn parked at the front entrance of Middletown Ohio's Atrium Medical Center.

Coburn explained to the media she thought the doors to the car were locked. However, she remembered later the doors would not lock as long as the keys were inside the car. The great-grandmother says she heard the screams of the children almost as soon as she stepped through the glass doors at the hospital's entrance.

Coburn says she ran outside only to see her car being driven away by a stranger. Her great-grandchildren were still inside. She was able to grab the door handle on the driver's side of the car but the thief kept slamming it shut. She could see the kidnapper maintained a grip on her granddaughter's sweatshirt.

The car sped off and dragged Coburn for a short distance before she was no longer able to maintain her grip. Surveillance cameras caught the moment the rear door of the car was opened and the eight-year-old boy tumbled out. He was also able to wrestle his sister away from the grasp of the kidnapper and pull her safely from the car.

The would-be kidnapper, 24-year-old Dalvir Singh, was apprehended by police a short time later and charged with a number of felonies.

Coburn says no person should experience the terror her and the children felt.

Middletown police Chief Rodney Muterspaw declared Coburn's great-grandson a hero. He characterized it as amazing the boy could show the presence of mind to pull his sister from the car in such a stressful situation. In an interview with Fox19 Muterspaw said:

"This little guy is a hero. No question. He pulled his sister out of the car with no concern for his own safety. That is incredible at his age and outstanding work by Officers Kirby and Engleka to find the suspect and take him down without incident. So proud of their work."

Police officer Connor Kirby said the love and devotion the little boy has for his sister is obvious.

The little boy shrugged the praise off while being interviewed by members of the media. He said he only did what he thought would help at the moment. He also said he did not want his sister to be harmed in any way.
