8-Year-Old Boy Gets Emotional For Heartfelt Reason After Years Of Being Homeless

One of the main things that children need is a home filled with basic necessities, from educational materials to a comfortable bed. 

However, not all are fortunate enough to have these essentials, so when an 8-year-old boy who grew up homeless finally had the opportunity to get his own bed, he was overjoyed. 

A little boy named Daeyer Neely's life was unlike that of other children, as he had been homeless since the age of two. According to a news report by NBC News in January 2018, his mom lost her job, which led them to lose their apartment at the time.

The year prior to the report being released, Daeyer and his mom, Dionna, were able to move into a shelter in hopes of getting public housing in Detroit, Michigan.

“He has started having a little trouble in school once we moved to the shelter. I had to explain to him we have to do this in order to get our own home.”

When they finally qualified for public housing in November 2017, things weren’t easy at first as they initially didn’t have furniture, which forced Daeyer to sleep on a pile of blankets.

Fortunately, a non-profit organization called Humble Design was able to help them and gave their house a full makeover.

According to Julie Nagle, the organization’s executive director: “We transform your house with donated goods from the community… We make it their home,” she said.

In one part of the video, the house was shown empty, but after the help of Humble Design, it was completely transformed into a proper home complete with a table, a dinnerware set up, and most importantly, Daeyer’s own bedroom complete with bed, toys, and decoration.

The house became a new chapter in their lives because Daeyer’s mom, Dionna, planned to attend nursing school to improve her family's life.

“As a mother, I did what I was supposed to do. I kept my promise to him and fulfilled our dreams,” the mom said.

In a clip of Daeyer’s reaction, the little boy walked into his new, fully furnished room, and the joy in his eyes was visible.

Later on, he burst into tears as he was overwhelmed with emotions after all the years that he was homeless. He then gave his mom a big hug to seek comfort.

A lot of online users were also moved by the story, as most of them shared their sentiments about Daeyer.

“Warms my hear to see. While also breaking my heart that so many children are still without basic childhood necessities. Please donate anything you can spare to struggling families,” one wrote.

“I cried so hard when I watched the full video of them seeing their new home for the first time. This little boy is so sweet and seeing how happy and grateful he was I couldn’t hold it back. So happy they have a safe and beautiful place to call home,” another one wrote.

“What a sweet little boy. He has been brave for so long the pain and hardship was all released. Im so happy for him and his mother,” one commented.

One user then commended the mom for her hard work as they wrote, “Respect to his mom for never giving up and for pulling through... god bless them both❤️.”
