8 Natural Home Remedies To Combat Droopy Eyelids

May 22, 2018 by apost team

Ptosis, more commonly known as droopy eyelid, is a common adult problem. Eyelid slouching is often attributed to aging, when the skin becomes more elastic and muscles lose their definition around the eyes. However, some people are born with naturally droopy eyelids and some people develop droopy eyelids from a neurological issue.

1. Facial Exercises

Exercising your facial muscles, particularly around the eyes, can bring strength and definition back to the area.

First Exercise:

Close your eyes and place your fingers at the bottom of your top eyelid. Try to open your eyes and raise your eyebrows. Repeat this exercise 15 times daily.

Second Exercise:

In front of a mirror, hold your eyebrows up to your brow bone, pulling tightly. Blink 7-10 times and then squeeze your eyes shut tightly for roughly 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times throughout the day daily.

2. Cucumber Treatment

In pop culture and movies you may have seen characters putting cucumbers on their eyes during a spa trip. While it may look silly, this is actually an effective treatment because the acids in cucumbers help to pull the excess water out of your eyelids. Place a chilled cucumber slice over each eyelid for 15 minutes daily to see best results.

3. Drinking Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea benefits droopy eyelids in two ways. First, droopy eyelids are sometimes caused by a lack of sleep. Drinking a cup of chamomile tea before you go to bed will help you sleep better, improving your eyelids. Second, you can place chilled chamomile tea bags on your eyelids to tighten the skin. Do this for 15 to 20 minutes daily.

4. Taking Vitamin B12

Droopy eyelids are often caused by muscle weakness, sometimes due to a vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 is found in animal products like meat and dairy. Be sure to get a healthy, appropriate serving of these foods if your diet allows. If not, you can ask your physician for vitamin B12 supplements to make up the difference.

5. Healthy Foods

Foods that contain a lot of beta-carotene and lutein are good for your vision and skin elasticity, helping people with droopy eyelids. Bright vegetables and fruits like apricots, carrots, bell peppers, papaya, and sweet potatoes all contain beta-carotene. Green vegetables like spinach, swiss chard, kale, turnip greens, and mustard greens all are high in lutein.

6. Grape Antioxidants

Red grape skins contain reveratrol, a strong antioxidant. Antioxidants help your skin quality and elasticity. In addition to red grapes, blueberries, cranberries, and dark chocolate all contain reveratrol.

7. Aloe Vera Paste

Aloe vera is good for improving skin elasticity, and you can make your own paste from it at home. First, combine two parts plain yogurt with two parts aloe vera gel and one part oatmeal. Add a few peeled cucumber slices. Blend this mixture together until it is even. Put the paste on your eyes and let it sit for 20 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. Use this remedy daily for best results.

8. Cold Water Bursts

Hot water loosens skin, but cold water tightens skin. A splash of cold water on your face first thing in the morning can not only help you wake up, but it helps your eyelids.
