8 Exercises That Everyone With Tired Eyes Should Be Doing

The process of sight is so important to our body that according to research it composes up to 50% of our entire brain function. As we get older, we may notice slight changes in our eyesight and deterioration. Working with computers can cause these issues to worsen, but thankfully there are some eyesight exercises that can be performed to soothe our eyes after a stressful day. Although technology has advanced in ways that help our daily lives, it means that the majority of our time is spent on some type of computer and can strain our eyesight.

This list of exercises can help you soothe tired eyes, and can be done anywhere at any time!

1. Focus Far And Near

  • Perform this exercise sitting upright or standing.
  • Place your thumb 10 inches in front of you, focusing on it for 10-15 seconds.
  • Next, focus on any object that is 10 to 20 feet away from you for another 10-15 seconds.
  • Lastly, try focusing on an object that is far away from you (a house or building in the distance) for an additional 10-15 seconds.

2. Moving Side-To-Side

  • Perform this exercise sitting upright or standing.
  • Focus on looking to your left without moving your head. Focus on an object in your eyesight.
  • Now look to your right and focus on an object.
  • Move your eyes left to right 5 times. Repeat this process 3 times total.

3. Moving Up And Down

  • Sit upright or stand for this exercise.
  • Move your eyes up and down, focusing on whatever you see.
  • Look up and down 5 times each direction.
  • Repeat process 3 times.

4. Move Eyes Diagonally

  • Sit upright or be standing for this exercise.
  • Move your eyes downward and to the left. Then avert your eyes diagonally and look to your right. Focus on objects that are in your line of sight.
  • Change directions of the exercise by looking down and to the right before moving your eyes up and to your left.
  • Repeat process 5 times in each direction.
  • Do 3 sets total.

5. Moving Eyes In A Circular Motion

  • Sit upright or stand for this exercise.
  • Roll your eyes in a circle clockwise very slowly. Draw 5 imaginary circles with your eyes.
  • Alter the direction by rolling your eyes in a counterclockwise manner. Draw 5 more imaginary circles with your eyes.
  • Repeat process 3 times.

6. Blinking

  • Perform this exercise standing or sitting upright.
  • Focus on slowly blinking around 10-15 times in a minute.
  • Use this exercise for two minutes.

7. Palming

  • This exercise soothes and relaxes your optic nerve.
  • In a dark room, sit down with your elbows resting gently on a table.
  • Rub your hands together to warm them. Place palms firmly over each eye.
  • Envision yourself in total darkness. Focus on breathing deeply.
  • Do this exercise for 5 minutes.

8. 20/20 Exercise

  • Perfect for those who work on computers to give your eyes a much-needed rest.
  • Every 20 minutes of computer work, take 20 seconds to stare at something 20 feet away.
