As Meghan Markle and her husband Harry finalize the details of their move to Canada, one question remains - who will fund the massive security bill that comes with the Sussex family?

A recent poll conducted by Nanos Research for CTV showed that just 19% of Canadian taxpayers are happy to pick up the massive cost for Meghan, Harry and Archie’s security.

Nanos Research for CTV conducted a survey surrounding Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Archie’s move to Canada. The results showed that the vast majority of Canadians (77%) were not happy with picking up the Sussexes’ security tab. ´

The results, which were released over the weekend, showed that more than two thirds of Canadians thought they would “respect the royal couple's privacy more than Brits.”

Canada is a constitutional monarchy, with Justin Trudeau currently serving as Prime Minister and Queen Elizabeth II as the official head of state.

Although the UK has little, if any, influence on Canada today, the poll showed that just 32% of Canadians were in favour of maintaining ties with the British Royal family.

The level of security the Sussexes will receive following their departure from their roles as senior Royals is still being discussed by both the Monarchy and the Canadian government.

Last week, Justin Trudeau said discussions were still ongoing and he could thus not give a clear answer as to how the security bill will be covered. ´

“I have not spoken to her Majesty directly, discussions continue to be ongoing and I have no updates at this moment,” The Prime Minister said in a press conference, as per CTV.
