75-Year-Old Man Gets Bored With His 150-Foot Hedge, Takes 13 Years To Sculpt It Into A Dragon

Patience isn't a virtue everyone possesses. On-the-job stress and other issues make exuding patience difficult. For some, showing patience for a hobby is even out of the question. Spending two weeks building a model airplane is a fantasy. Many quit after a couple of days. Can you imagine someone spending 10 years slowly and steadily creating a giant natural "dragon" in a garden?

You don't have to imagine what the green dragon looks like. Photos exist thanks to an older, retired man's decade-long commitment to meticulously carving one out of a hedge. The man named John Brooker in the UK didn't create a small dragon out of a little hedge. The dragon is Godzilla-like in size. Height-wise, the dragon is a good three or four feet taller than Mr. Brooker.

"I was standing at my kitchen sink one day and thought the hedge was boring so decided to do something with it," he told the BBC.

The sheer size alone contributed to the task requiring ten years of work. The details that went into the creation of the dragon cover even the finest and most minute touches. The dragon's head captures emotions in a manner no different than a brilliant sculpture.

And the dragon doesn't come off as mean or fierce as he's sleeping and at peace. Mr. Brooker wasn't going for scares with his friendly dragon. Another aspect that makes the story touching is the creator's motivation. Mr. Brooker dedicated the decade-long journey to his wife. The dragon is a gift to her.
The garden dragon also delivers some unique curbside appeal. Who knows? Maybe Mr. Brooker dramatically increased the equity in his property.

Will the tale of Mr. Brooker and his dragon inspire your friends to do something special with their time? You won't know until you tell them his story.
