A 73-year-old retiree in Ontario, Canada is making waves on Instagram with her amazing transformation. Joan McDonald began a healthier lifestyle with the help of her daughter and has been very pleased with her results.

In an interview with Metro, Joan said she used to use food as a way to deal with stressful situations in her life. She had been in a good bit of pain due to having a knee replaced and arthritis, and she was taking medication regularly for a variety of heath issues including high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Joan began to improve after she began going to the gym four days each week and modified her diet. She credits both her daughter and her son-in-law with providing her with the necessary coaching and support she needed to be successful.

"I could barely walk up and down the stairs and I hadn’t even been to the gym in several months because my knee that I had replaced was really hurting me," said Joan. " I started out pretty overwhelmed as it was all online, and I had to get an iPhone and learn all about apps. I was in tears at times, ready to throw in the towel, but luckily, I was too darn stubborn."

Her efforts have paid off with more than 50 pounds of weight loss and her underlying health conditions improving so much that she no longer has to take daily medication.

Joan advises others who are interested in improving their health to start slowly and not expect instant success. She recommends changing one thing in your diet and adding one new exercise weekly. It was also her daughter’s decision to share her journey on an Instagram account, which led to many people being inspired by her progress.

Joan is living proof that change can happen at any age! What do you think about her transformation? Let us know in the comments - and make sure you pass this along to your friends and family!
