Believe it or not, the way we get started in the morning can seriously affect our weight throughout the day. Even our choices during the morning can affect how we will continue to eat throughout the rest of the day.  Oftentimes, our bodies like to store extra calories if we don't use them up earlier in the day.

1. Eating a Small Breakfast in the Morning

istockphotos.com/demaerre According to the Tel Aviv University, the time of our meals is more important than anything that we choose to eat. This is why it's better to eat lighter at dinner time and start the day with a large breakfast. When trying to maintain one's weight, it's better to be strategic about when we eat.

This is due to the fact that the body has a faster metabolism earlier in the day. Thus, it's better to start the day with a breakfast that is higher in calories.

2. Avoiding Sunshine During the Day

When it comes to white fat tissue, the University of Alberta in Canada found that the body's lipids decrease when in the sunlight. When we make it a point to walk in the sunlight or just get more sun, the body will literally be able to burn more fat just by being outdoors.

3. Water After Breakfast

When we drink more water, we automatically accelerate our metabolism. An increased metabolism will help prevent one from gaining additional weight. Moreover, drinking an adequate amount of water regularly will help to rid the body of toxins.

As part of an experiment, Chris Bailey found that he was able to reduce his 17% body fat to 10% just by drinking water right after waking up.

4. Not Exercising

In addition to all of the physical and health benefits of regular exercise, exercising in the morning can decrease one's appetite. According to a study by Javier Gonzales and Dr. Emma Stevenson, morning exercisers ate less food during the day.

5. Not Eating Dessert First

Dessert after dinner doesn't make you thinner. Want to eat baked goods or sweet treats? Do it in the morning! Eating these high caloric foods first thing in the morning will have less of an impact when it comes to weight gain.

6. Reading the News in the Morning

Many people often get irritable or angry when reading the news. While it may seem like a good thing to be informed early in the morning, it can negatively impact one's weight. Stem cells will turn into fat cells if the body is under constant stress from an early morning news habit.

Mary Truel of Stanford University School of Medicine found that stress makes the body produce hormones to help us adapt when in a new environment. If this stress is long-term, fat cells will start to form due to the body's method of "storing calories".

7. Not Having A Pet

Pet owners can control their weight more easily than people that don't have pets. Several studies show that having a pet to care for will help to reduce stress, resulting in less weight gain.
