68-Year-Old Woman Runs Pop-Up Shop At The Mall, Gives Prom Dresses To 13,000 Underprivileged Teens

Among the numerous boutique and beauty shops found at the Southdale Center near Minneapolis is one unique store that offers services that remain unmatched in the area. On approaching the store, you will notice the word “PROM” engraved in red and pink roses over a black curtain that runs across the entrance.

The gesture already tells you what the store offers but you need to explore to figure out what makes it special and unique.

For 13 years the store has been running seamlessly thanks to Pam Phillip who is known as PROM’s head fairy godmother. Under her services, more than 13000 girls made their dreams come true for their prom nights.

Most of these girls are underprivileged high school students who cannot quite afford the prom dress of their dreams to make the night special seeing that a prom night only happens once in your lifetime.

Pam goes ahead to explain why she saw the need to open up her store. She quotes that the economy has gone hard on everyone especially for the less fortunate.

“Times are tight so to spend all this money on prom is just, for many families it’s unthinkable,” Pam told CBS

Their families would rather save the kind of money used on fancy prozm dresses that would only be used once for necessities. For the high school students, prom night is of so much significance that it would crush them to miss the event because they didn’t have the right dress.

Going by the shop’s business name, Operation Glass Slipper runs its business with no aim of making profits. It stocks hundreds of fancy shoes, dresses, jewelry, purses and basically anything that would make the prom night gear complete.

The girls are allowed to pick whatever they fancy at no costs whatsoever. Most of the stock is from donations and has no previous owners.

Unfortunately, Pam announced that 2019 would be “Operation Glass Slipper’s” last year in operation. Although she would have wanted to continue serving the young girls, her age and those of her volunteers working to see the mission of store accomplished is forcing them to retire.

Pam is indeed a darling. Wouldn’t you love to see her legacy live on? Spread the word to encourage others to be kind to others, just like Pam!
