6-Year-Old Girl Smacked By Royal Guard After Presenting Flowers To Late Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II was beloved by many over her 70-year reign, which ended with her passing on Sept. 8, 2022. Among them was Maisie Gregory, who, back when she was just a sweet 6-year-old in June 2015, got more than she bargained for when she met the Queen.

Maisie had been selected to have the honor of presenting flowers to Queen Elizabeth II after her visit to Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. This was a time-honored tradition that Maisie executed flawlessly, which she followed with a sweet curtsy. But after the Queen turned to leave the building, things took a turn for the unexpected.

Trying to fulfill his duties as a Queen's Guard, one of the guards makes the motion for an enthusiastic salute to the Queen. And little Maisie got smacked in the face with a gloved hand. Her beautiful hat went flying from the smack.

In a video of the incident, Maisie can be heard audibly saying "Ow!" At first, it appeared as if the Queen's guard was either unaware or unbothered by the fact that he had struck the young child in the head. The Queen also appeared not to have noticed the guard's accidental contact and kept walking towards her car.

But, according to a Wales Online report, once the Queen was out of the frame, the guard bent down to apologize to Maisie. The guard also apologized enthusiastically to Maisie's mother, Joanne Gregory, the wife of Regimental Sergeant Major Martin Gregory.

Maisie was unharmed from the incident. The only effect on Maisie was lack of sleep due to her excitement in meeting the Queen. Maisie had been up and ready to go at 4:45 am that morning. She wanted to be dressed perfectly in her traditional Welsh clothing. She represented her country well.
