6-Year-Old Girl Is Diagnosed With Brain Tumor. 2 Weeks Later, Brother Receives Exact Same Diagnosis

When Duncan and Nohea Avery took their 6-year-old daughter, Kalea, to the doctor for recurring headaches, they hoped it was something that was easily treatable. Unfortunately, this California family received the terrible news that Kalea had a rare form of cancer known as medulloblastoma. Even more unfortunate is the fact that Kalea was not alone with her condition.
Medulloblastoma is a curable tumor that initially forms at the back of the head near the neck, and it may eventually spread to other areas in the brain and to the spine. One of the more common symptoms is a headache that never seems to go away.

As Kalea and her parents were preparing for her surgery, Duncan and Nohea noticed that her 4-year-old brother was acting unusual. He was also complaining of headaches. More than that, he was sleeping excessively and seemed to be unsteady on his feet. Overwhelmed with the stress that they were dealing with over their daughter’s upcoming surgery, they initially wrote off his symptoms as simply feeling anxious and stressed because of his sister’s tumor.
However, the family soon learned that Noah also had medulloblastoma. This is truly a medical rarity as siblings had never before received the same diagnosis with a tumor located in exactly the same location within only a few weeks. Kalea’s tumor was surgically removed on June 11, and Noah’s similar surgery was performed exactly two weeks later. Additional treatment, such as chemotherapy, is needed as well.
Out of this terrible situation, the siblings have found a wonderful silver lining. They are both going through the same thing at the same time and are therefore the perfect support system for each other. Understandably, the parents have left their jobs so that they can provide their children with the full amount of care and love that they can. An online fundraiser has been established so that they can continue to care for their two beautiful children and pay for all of the chemotherapy and other treatments that are needed.
Do you know someone who's ever received such a terrible diagnosis? If so, let us know how you dealt with the situation. May your thoughts and prayers go out to Kalea, Noah and anyone else who is suffering from a similar condition.
