As the Royal Family attended St Mary Magdalene Church on Christmas day, eager fans waited outside of the church for hours to catch a glimpse.

One particular six-year-old boy, James, waited patiently for the 11am Church service to end since 8:30 in the morning, accompanied by his mother Nakita, in the hopes of giving 4-year-old Princess Charlotte a special gift: a bundle of white roses.

As the church service came to an end, Princess Charlotte was joined by her mother Kate Middleton as they greeted and chatted with the public waiting outside.

The crowd handed a number of gifts to the little Princess, including a handmade Angel ornament. Out of all the gifts, however, the flowers seemed to be a clear favorite.

"We'd been queuing since about half eight and James was really keen to see Charlotte,” Nakita told the Mirror.

"When they left the church, Kate came over and said, 'are these for Charlotte?' and then James said 'yes' and handed them over,” she added.

As James handed the flowers over to the Princess, she reportedly became “shy.”

"James was so excited, but I think he was quite starstruck by her."

Charlotte then walked away clutching the roses and, according to Nakita, refused to hand them over to a royal aide.

"What made it all even sweeter was I watched her as she walked off and other people were giving her flowers which were handed to her protection officer, but she just wouldn't let go of James',” the mother revealed.

"She kept them in her hand the whole time."
